Hello!

My name is Karson Wells, I am in my freshmen year of college at SJSU. My goal is to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism, and who knows, hopefully one day you’ll see me as an anchor on Today. I have two years of experience with broadcast journalism, first as my school’s Sports Commentator and then as the Producer for our broadcast program. The main thing that drew me to journalism, broadcast journalism in particular, is how it is always changing. I love consistency, but the idea of being stuck in the same job, doing the same thing, every day was the worst part about thinking of the future. Journalism gives me the opportunity to not only explore and see the world, but to also learn about it as I go. I love the idea of being able to inform others too, because what good is knowing something important if you don't share it with others. I want to leave the world better then where it is now, and journalism is my outlet for that.

I haven’t always wanted to be a journalist, my love for writing started with a drive to become a fiction writer. I also wanted to be a biologist for a short period of my life, but thats besides the point. My dad has been one of my biggest influencers. My entire life he has bestowed upon me random bits of knowledge, that sound a little odd, but are very useful. My favorite one is to “Chew your own food”. This sounds like common sense, of course im going to chew my own food, why wouldn't I, but the problem is that in terms of gaining information many people dont go out and research for themselves. They accept the first headline they come across on facebook, and then before you know it they start believing that Fox News is a good news source. My goal is to be able to present as much factual information to people who can't “chew their own food” and hopefully help them to distinguish between false and reputable information.

My hopes with taking both Journalism 61 and MCOM 63 is that ill be able to grow in many ways as a Journalist. Through learning how to write like a journalist ill be more able to translate that into voice for broadcast, and while i already have experience with Premier Pro and Photo Shop, I am excited to grow in those skills and to be able to learn other Adobe software.
